Flowers and their ability to communicate are a part of the human condition. You might know red roses to mean love in today’s world, but at the height of Queen Victoria’s reign, emotional meanings were given to individual flowers to speak where words failed. Referred to as the Secret Language of Flowers, or Floriography, a language unlike no other was born. Between lovers, friends and even enemies flowers spoke words of love, heartbreak, loss and betrayal.

So often in my life I have found myself drawn back to floriography and it's abilty to express raw and complex human emotion in a simple way; through flowers.

The Botanics of Us is here to educate you on the forgotten botany of the Victorian era, and the secrets these flowers held. Let their stories intrigue and inspire you, learn about that scientific processes behind herbariums and find yourself getting lost in the beautiful intricacies that is the Language of the Flowers.
